About the Conference
The University Responds
In May 2019, the National Inquiry on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG2S) released its 1200-page report, which made a systematic case that the crisis constitutes a genocide. This Report has been largely ignored by the Canadian government and public at large.
The main goal of this conference is to strategize collectively about the Report’s calls for justice to find ways to implement these within the university setting. This may include curriculum design,  student services, strategies for recruitment and retention of Indigenous faculty, recommendations for campus security, research collaboration, and community-university alliances.
This conference, to be held at The University of Winnipeg, will be a gathering of scholars, activists, educators, community and family members of MMIWG2S, direct student service providers and students to think together about ways in which the Calls for Justice might be effectively addressed within the university context. Indigenous women’s and 2S voices will be centered in all levels of the discussion.
